Propylene Glycol

Custom Chemical Services distributes chemicals and ingredients into a variety of industries. One of our largest products is Propylene Glycol. We distribute Propylene Glycol produced by ADM. Product is available in drums, totes, and tank trucks. Propylene Glycol -Product Availability USP and Industrial Grades offered 480 lb drum (55 gallons) 2,000 lb IBC tote (275 gallons) 44,000 lb bulk tanker (est. 6,000 gallons) Propylene Glycol in stock and ready to ship! Propylene Glycol is used in many formulations ranging from personal care to food products and even cough syrups. In personal care Propylene Glycol acts as a humectant. Propylene Glycol contributes to skin hydration by drawing water from the deeper layers of the epidermis and dermis to the outer layer of the skin. Propylene Glycol can also act as a solubilizer, for instance many skin care products use salicylic acid which is often solublilized by Propylene Glycol. Another function of Propylene Glycol is a viscosity modifier; this is often needed in spray or aerosol products. Propylene glycol is used in numerous food items such as beer, packaged baked goods, ice cream, margarine, coffee, nut products, and soda. Propylene Glycol attracts and absorbs water which is a key reason for its purpose as a food additive. In pharmaceutical manufacturing Propylene Glycol is used as an inactive ingredient.  The FDA has approved its use at concentrations as high as 98% in topical drugs and 92% in oral solutions. Propylene Glycol is a key component in cough syrups and many other liquid drugs. Industrial applications range from production of lubricants, paints, varnishes and is also widely used as a coolant. — There are two methods of Propylene Glycol production; petrochemical refining and catalytic conversion of glycerin. Petrochemical refining begins with crude oil that is fractionated into other Propene derivatives. These derivatives include; polypropylene, acrylonitrile, 2-ethyl hexanol, propylene oxide, cumene, acrylic acid, isopropanol, and butanols. Propylene Oxide is then further processed into Propylene Glycol. Bio-based production begins with soy bean oil or corn oil which is then converted into vegetable glycerin. Once in the form of glycerin, a process called catalytic conversion produces Propylene Glycol. Manufactures of Propylene Glycol typically have two streams of production. One for industrial, also known as Propylene Glycol Industrial Grade and the second stream commonly known as Propylene Glycol USP. Propylene Glycol USP is dedicated to food, personal care, or pharmaceutical applications. Custom Chemical Services distributes Propylene Glycol produced by ADM. Our material is bio-based and maintains USP standards. We distribute material in 480 lb poly drums and 2,000 lb IBC totes. We maintain a large inventory of bulk Propylene Glycol at our facility in Miami, FL.
